Description:Bunny came from a hoarder situation and learned very little about life for the first three years of hers. Afraid of the TV, carpet, the great outdoors, and nearly every person she saw, we thought she would need months and months of rehabilitation. She surprised us by coming around very quickly. Despite her ridiculously difficult past, Bunny is thriving. She's doing great with routine though she still has her quirks. She is playful, affectionate, a joy to have around. Words can't describe the special quality that this dog has. She's goofy, loving, happy, sweet, silly, gentle... and totally adorable. She has a quirky head tilt that mostly only shows up when she's being cautious or is feeling unsure of herself, and her back legs often stay together when she runs giving the appearance of a bunny hopping. With her clear brown eyes and big Yoda ears, Bunny will worm her way right into your heart.
While she has met people at her foster home and in other familiar environments with success, we've only just begun to get her out for socialization in public places and her new home will have to commit to doing the same for her. This is crucial to her confidence-building. We've recently attended classes and in the beginning she hid the entire time and shut down, disinterested and frightened. Every session has seen improvement and Bunny is a whole new dog now that we've reached the end of this set of classes. She will continue to improve if her new family will commit to taking her to classes where she can develop at her own speed.
Bunny has been on many walks and hikes and has met several new dogs at our house and when out. Though initially she shows no interest, she starts to pay attention to what other canines are doing and calms down much faster, so we believe a home with another dog or two is likely a necessity for Bunny- her confidence multiplies tenfold when in the presence of familiar canines and we attribute much of her success in her foster home with her doggy foster siblings.
Bunny has come so far. She occasionally startles at new things, but every day she learns a little more. She uses a crate reliably and goes in when asked- sometimes we leave the door open and she goes in on her own to sleep. She is housebroken but does need crated as her puppy mind wants to explore everything and she will chew things like paper or wood if left to her own devices- wouldn't you think everything was a toy, if you had never had toys of your own?
Overall, Bunny has come along like a champ, and is going to make someone very lucky if they are understanding enough to recognize this quirky girl's charm!
Please apply to adopt Bunny if you:
-Are looking for a companion for your current dog(s),
-Are willing to take her to classes and take her out to work on her socialization,
-Will take things slow with her so that she can adjust at her own pace.
