Halloween Tips for Pet Owners
This Halloween, if you're planning to give candy to trick or treaters, make sure your pets do not have access to the door that you will be repeatedly opening. Keep your cats and dogs safely contained in one area of your house away from the main entrance. Because accidents do happen, make sure your pets are wearing collars with tags so that you may recover them more easily.
If you have indoor/outdoor or outdoor cats or dogs, please bring them in on Halloween. This is a time where pranksters run amok, and cats have forever been a target of cruel teenagers and kids, sicko adults, and even occult members. Don't expose your kitty to something so potentially dangerous this Hallow's Eve.
Keep small Halloween decorations, candles, pumpkins with candles, and candy (especially chocolate) away from your cats and dogs. These things can all be very harmful to curious critters.
Remember that although you may be accustomed to the sounds and sights of this day, your pet is not and may be easily frightened or antagonized by the trick-or-treaters and their costumes and noises. Pets may become excited, especially dogs, and may try to get out to see what all the fuss is about.
Don't let strangers feed your pets anything or even touch them if you don't know if you can trust them or where they came from. Not only could they harm your pet, but if your pet isn't up to date on all of its shots, it can acquire disease very easily in this way.
Please take all of this into consideration this Halloween, and I promise you will be making the day much safer and happier for you and the furry members of your family.
