Easter Bunnies -- Wednesday March 5th, 2008
We would encourage all visitors to our site to spread the word: bunny rabbits do NOT make good Easter presents. With life spans of 10-15 years easily these days, and very specific dietary needs (fresh veggies, hay, quality pellets, chew toys, proper Vit. A ratio, etc.)
If someone you know is thinking about getting a bunny for Easter, remind them that this is a long term commitment and suggest a stuffed or chocolate bunny instead! Alternatively, those who are serious about adopting a rabbit can contact the rescue at any time with questions on proper rabbit care and we'll do our best to help.

Petfinder has declared March "Adopt a guinea pig month" and we couldn't be happier. We have 5 beautiful little cheeky wheekers awaiting a new home. Please check out our animals' pages for Frankie, Hayes, Quincy, Mamie and Dolly- the President's Day pigs. Help us spread the news about these sweet babies!
Sponsorships available! -- Thursday January 24th, 2008
STAR would like to announce two new ways to "adopt" a pet! If you look under each of our adoptable pets' photos on the website, you will see a link that says "Sponsor this pet!"- from here you can make a single or recurring payments.
In addition, we are running an ongoing Memorial/Gift sponsorship- with this, you can buy a virtual "present" to be featured on your sponsoree's page, with a message of your choice! Currently we are featuring this on our home page, but the option will be available from our Sponsorship Page indefinitely.
We hope to see a lot of gifts on our pets' pages, and remember that all your gifts are tax deductible!

CPAA Membership! -- Sunday August 13th, 2006
We've been approved as a member of the Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance! CPAA is a non-profit alliance of over 35 shelters and rescues working together to save the lives of dogs, cats and other companion animals through improved public education, increased adoption rates and aggressive spay/neuter programs. Through the group, we'll be eligible for certain programs and will be invited to attend CPAA events. This is a great network to be a part of and we're proud to have been approved! See their home page at www.cpaa.info

New Webpages -- Monday April 24th, 2006
There are some exciting new changes to the website! The first and most interesting is our revamped menu. I hope that it makes surfing the site more manageable. You'll notice the "Information Center" and "Just for Fun" areas- feel free to take a look. There are informative articles, poems and stories and will soon be links. While the information center still needs a lot added to it, we think it will become a bookmark-worthy page full of resources and useful information. Also, please check out "Sunnie's Page"- a tribute to a very special kitty. Coming soon- an "Update Log" where we will make note of all of the changes to the website so you don't have to surf around to see what has changed. Some of our loyal page-checkers will enjoy this. :)
New Dogs! -- Sunday March 12th, 2006
Please check out Buddy in the animals section of our website! Buddy is a sweet little sausage of a dog from a dog pound in OH. He can sit pretty (see photos). Also pulled from that shelter are four puppies, one looking much like a golden, one like a lab, one like a great dane, and the other like a flat coated retriever. Your guess is as good as ours! They are to be transferred to Small Wonders in Eastern PA later this week, but please contact us if you are interested!
Adoption! New Dog! -- Saturday March 4th, 2006
Tanner was adopted today! He received a clean bill of health from the vet yesterday and so went to his furever home this morning, where I KNOW he will be cherished. He came with us on our home visit and both then and today he acted as if he'd lived in that house, with that family, his whole life. Very strong meant-to-be feelings there.
We also have a new dog, Spike the lab mix, who will be entering rescue on Monday pending a temperament evalutaion test. He's already on the site, with pictures coming Monday! If you know of anyone looking for this sort of dog, send them here!
Tanner update -- Tuesday February 21st, 2006
This little guy has completely forgotten he is injured! He runs and jumps and is a constant worry to his foster mom, who must try to keep him calm. Hopefully he will get a clean bill of health next week from the vet and we can schedule his neuter surgery for ASAP. We have raised almost enough donations to cover his initial medical bills and follow up exam! Thank you to Tanner's gracious sponsors. However well his physical ailments have healed, though, he remains psychologically injured. He still has a long way to go to becoming an outgoing, confident little boy. Keep checking back for updates!
